"The Giver" by Sara Teasdale

The Giver
by Sara Teasdale

You bound strong sandals on my feet,
You gave me bread and wine,
And sent me under sun and stars,
For all the world was mine.

Oh, take the sandals off my feet,
You know not what you do;
For all my world is in your arms,
My sun and stars are you.

  1. How beautiful!
    I love the "my sun and stars are you." The poem gives me such a lovely mental story. A beautiful flowy dress, long hair girl with arms open wide under the stars. Then lost, a crumble to the ground, still in the same beautiful scenery. Then running, tearing through thorned bushes. Dress torn, collapsed in a handsome man's arms. Or something of the sort.

  2. I think it's really amazing how, even though this poem is totally simply, it seems to conjure up a whole story in my mind! :)

  4. I know! <3 I used this poem to show a friend that poetry could be simple and beautiful at the same time. :)
